Being a middle child 2 1/2 years old I knew Kale would have to compete for attention. I didn't know that screaming at everything and everyone, bugging Everett, hitting, and biting was the way to get my attention. Kaleb has been terrible two for 1 year now, Evan and I were getting sad and frustrated that our cute Kale

was getting naughtier and naughtier.

Then something strange started to happen. We went to Albuquerque for a weekmid December and when we got back he started to change. He started sleeping through the night, coming in at 7:30am or later, telling us when he needs a diaper change (that's right I'm a slacker, haven't started potty trainign yet!)! I had to have Connor sit on Kaleb just so I could change his diaper, yeah it was that bad! He hardly screams, says 'please' and almost always 'thank you mom'.

So my little monster is starting to disappear and is becoming the little boy I would dream about when he would wake up four time throughout the night screaming and hitting for no apparent reason.

Snow Is Here!!!

The first real snow of the year here in Colorado. The kids acted like they had seen it all before, but loved playing in it nonetheless. Connor did ask me how to make a snowball. I showed him and then I pegged him with it. Never trust dad!!! These pictures were all taken about a week before the sunny day pictures. What a difference a week makes in the great state of Colorado!!

Make sure you get my best side dad!!

Playgrounds are probably more fun covered in snow anyway. The slide sure is!!

I have never been to the circus in my life and it was coming to town. So I prepped the kids by having them watch Dumbo in advanced as if that would save you from the scary clowns! Overall it was fun. I don't think I would go to the circus again but it's fun saying I've been.

Connor was loving it while wearing his save the earth and animals hat (I had to, it was attached to teeth rotting cotton candy, yum)

And then there was this little boy. He liked it for about a minute and decided he was done. It was rough but it was so loud no one could hear him cry so I was paranoid about letting him be cranky.

How many birthday cakes does a 4 year old need? Wait for it...

That's right, you have to celebrate so much that he asks you, whose birthday is it mom?

Connor's Great Grandma Farrow gave him a cake.

I made him a cake, turned out a little shiny. I rushed okay!!

And we had to have a cake at the cabin!

Oh and we had to celebrate at Brick Oven!!!

And of course have ice cream and drink out of a mug shaped like a boot, which by the way I was super excited about but the boys didn't really care what they were drinking out of as long as it was soda.And then to celebrate... you have to take them bowling for the first time ever!

They had fun, but along with everything I think sounds like a good idea it only lasted for about 10 minutes!

They then played in the arcade as Evan and I took turns bowling for them! I like bowling.

Yellowstone in September

Baby Kale wasn't feeling well. But we had to keep going, I'm such a mean mom!Don't worry we gave him ice cream and he cheered up. Probably because it cooled his fever down.

It's a tradition to get chocolate malt ice cream frm a shop in Yellowstone and I forced everyone to eat it with the wooden sticks it comes with because everything tastes better as you struggle to eat with a wooden stick.

After going around Yellowstone for a couple days we were sick of not seeing any animals!!! So finally found the best places and the right time of day.

Right before it gets dark and by the water is where we found the beasts! So we got out of the car and started to walk to see them better.

We saw them from a far but they were starting to come our way so we returned to the car.

And eat our sandwiches.

And that's when they started to get too close for my comfort.

And that's when it happened, they were crossing the street. I said let's start driving but it was too late. The buffalo were on the left side of our car, right side, front and behind. Let me tell you I was yelling in that car telling everyone to be quiet, roll up the windows! This happened to Evan and I 6 years ago when we were dating and apparently you just get worse with age because I was not calm!This buffalo passed in front of our car and I was getting nervous that he would get mad and take out our car.

When it was all over Connor says to me "that was a close one mom" And that is coming from a kid who has a speech problem, thank you Colorado schools. They are the best!! But if he knew it was a close call then I was okay to freak out, right?

So we made it safe and sound. What was a 21 hour drive turned into a 31 hour drive spaced over 3 days!! Who knew a moving truck could only go 25mph over hills and let me tell you, there are a ton over the mountains and even on the plains!

We are living in a 3 bedroom apartment on the second floor and I feel bad for the guy below us. Kaleb is a heavy walker!

As soon as we got to Colorado we moved our stuff in and then went to Nauvoo. It was fun but again rough 15 hour drive. Everett now cries every time he gets put into the car seat! We have only been to our ward twice but I already miss our old ward. Everyone in this ward is done having kids and all the moms have like 5 kids each. And with my luck they are almost all girls. It is so quiet I feel like I am taking my kids out every peep!

Evan started his beat on Sunday, working days for the next month and then he will go to midnights for all the training. Hopefully he will only be in training for 2 months instead of 3 and a half. It looks like a good department. Evan describes it as a good ol' boys' club! I love how they did make fun of the size of his gun saying "the 9 is a good gun, my wife loves hers."

Any hoot, we are moved in and I will soon get pics of my little naughty boys and the fam soon.

We decided to go to a San Jose Giants Game for Memorial Day and it was a blast. We are definitely a baseball fan family

After the game they let the kids run the bases, it was a little hard for Connor because he had flip flops on and wasn't sure what the purpose of running around a baseball field was.

It has been our little Smith family tradition to go camping every year on Memorial and nothing was gonna stop us!
That morning Kaleb fell in the bathroom hitting his mouth on the toilet. He hit his mouth so hard he ripped his frenulum above his front teeth, saving us a future little operation. But it was a rough night trying to get some sleep.

My mom wasn't feeling well so I hoped on a plane to visit her with my kids. I think I was more trouble than I was help. It was fun seeing her though.

My family gets constantly sick so my mom had a theory that if you sleep with a cut onion in your room, it absorbs all the mold and bacteria in the air. It just made the room stinky so I tossed it out in the middle of the night!

I'm kinda a weird parent because if I feel like my kids won't remember going somewhere why pay for them to go? This is how I feel about Disneyland, so since Connor was free I bit my lip and took him anyway. It was a blast but I would never pay for him to go.

I can finally post!! And so I am going to be posting tons of old pictures. I feel like if I don't post them they never happened!For Christmas every year we have to eat oatmeal before we open gifts and by the look on Connor's face I am the only one who likes this tradition!

I'm not sure what he likes better the paper or the gift. I should have just bought him a roll of wrapping paper to chew on.

I loved this Christmas because no one messed with my tree and all the ornaments. Kaleb was too young to grab anything and Connor was old enough where he knew not to even think about touching the tree! I'm a strict mom when it comes to my tree.

The famous train set that I will always regret buying. It is a hassle to set up and he plays with it for less than 5 minutes but always wants to get it out!!!

Trick or Treat

We had a lot of fun trick-or-treating. We practiced in the house and when he mastered this delicate skill we decided to test it out on the neighborhood. We went to literally 10 houses and it took us more than 45 minutes. Apparently we aren't walkers!

This is at Snoqualmie Falls in Washington. We went at night and we were afraid we weren't going to see the falls. We made it right at sunset and the falls were beautiful and then is got dark quick!

Connor was so excited to have this balloon left over from my sister's baby shower, he had to go to sleep with it.

Connor had a laid back fun birthday. We went to Evan's sister's, Erin, house and had hamburgers and hotdogs. Connor loved just running around in their big back yard.

Our ward put on a fun Luau last night at the church. Connor loved it. We put him in a Hawaiian outfit my Grandparents bought for him about 1 1/2 years ago.

They had a fun pinata at the party and Connor got two turns to hit it. My camera wasn't working during the hitting of the pinata so I thought I would re-inact it. So being mother of the year again... I had a little girl from the ward hold the pinata and gave Connor the bat. Well bad idea because he started to hit the pinata with the bat. Thankfully he didn't hit her.

My brother Jeff and his family, Amanda, Aly and Rowan came to California and visited us this past week. It was really fun having them and we were glas they could stay with us.

We went to the beach in Santa Cruz and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows.

The day Rowan came she was talking all about the baby and could not stop touching him. The day she left she still wasn't sick of "baby". It was really cute how much she loved him.

We got a really good deal on this fun swimming pool at Target. Connor loves to jump into the pool with all his clothes on, so we have to make sure when he goes outside we either have to strip him down or check to make sure the pool is emptied.

This is our unruly tomato plant. We got so many tomatoes that I made 2 giant batches of salsa and gave away a ridiculous amount to friends and neighbors!! We have been putting tomatoes on everything!

Our corn is another story!! We had peas earlier in the season and they grew too fast and shaded the corn. The corn didn't do too well, but we have several cobbs. My mom said the corn will probably break the stalks in half before the corn is ripe for the picking.

Our canteloupe popped up, but Evan thinks it looks like a watermelon so I may have my plants mixed up!

Our squash keeps coming and we are wondering when it will stop!! We original planted the whole packet of seeds and then realized that you really only need 1 or 2, so I pulled a ton but couldn't pull them all. I kept 12 plants and that was 11 too many.

Digging for tatters! We planted potatoes and were surprised that we got any. I planted grocery store potatoes and heard later that you shouldn't do that if you want good potatoes.

Who ever said having a baby during the summer is better because your baby won't get sick was not telling the truth!! My little Kale got sick with bronchiolitis and had to be put on a nebulizer. He was sleeping all day long. He is feeling much better and I hope he doesn't get sick for along time.

We took the plunge and decided to do cloth diapers. When we first put them on Kale we just laughed and hoped that we put it on right. They are so big on him!! But I now love them and want to use them for all my kids!! Call me crazy.

He came very quick and very unexpectantly!! We were having cake and ice cream at some friends' house and went home to put Connor to bed. Then our second little baby decided he wanted to surprise us and come early.

Evan and I were so tired. We were going to go to bed early that night!!

He weighed in at 7 lbs 1 oz and 19 1/2 inches long. He was born at 11:41. No later, because I didn't want Evan to have to share his birthday!

I surprised Evan with an early birthday gift by going down to LA for a Dodger game.

It was a lot of fun singing songs at the game and eating Dodger Dogs, but that night the Phillies were playing their best pitcher! Dodgers lost.

I have been taking Connor to a exploration class every Friday to get out of the house so Evan can sleep better. He gets to go through little tunnels,learn how to blow bubbles, just run around and play!

For his graduation, they gave him a certificate while going down the slide.

Memorial Day Camping 2009

For the second year in a row the Smiths went camping with the Sagers. We loved it so much last year we couldn't resist another year.

Connor loved going in and out of the tents especially with Melanie's Head light.

Connor and Howie were perfect playmates camping. He loved pulling Howie around on his leash and in Connor's stroller.

While sweeping the floor I noticed that half the bottle was on the floor!

But it was worth it, because the cake was beautiful!

You might notice a trend with these pictures because Connor didn't care about the animals. Connor just wanted to run around and get into trouble!

I walk into the kitchen to see that Connor got a hold of a pencil and decided to write all over the cupboards. walls and fridge.
It's hard to see because it is pencil, but let me tell you that it was really hard to get it off!!

While we were visiting Scott and Kim in Maryland, we stopped by a man's basement where he had been collecting trains from when he was a little boy.

He has been showing his trains for 7 years to the public.

No, Connor hasn't turned the big 1 yet. We had a joint birthday party with Connor's friend Avy who is 2 weeks older than him.

It took me forever to make his birthday cake but I did it. I have never used fondant before, but it was really fun!

Walking Man

Connor took his first step about a month ago. He started to take multiple steps on Aug 8. He really started to walk a week later. On the 22nd, he decided that crawling isn't nearly as much fun as walking. Now walking is all he wants to do. We decided to videotape him before he doesn't look like Frankenstein anymore.

Connor is finally attached to something. He loves this singing duck from Baby Einstein. He has pressed it so many times that the duck will just start playing when no one is around it. I'm about ready to throw it away.

Finally, after 10 1/2 months Connor figured out that there are pots and pans in the cupboard that are the best toy in the house!!
He was occupied with them for a good 40 minutes before he only stopped to have dinner.
After taking them out, he decided to climb on in.

Connor has only been without a diaper for a couple seconds during diaper changes. Well, this time we weren't fast enough. He turned on his tummy and quickly crawled away. He escaped so fast! He went straight to his toys.

Good friends of ours brought their puppy Howie over to help teach Connor to not be afraid of dogs.
There was not a part of Connor that wasn't licked by Howie!

While picking out a movie I left the cupboard door opened. Connor said, "wow, I've never seen this open before. Let's destroy it!"
He pulled all the movies out and decided to hop on in.

I left him for no more than 20 seconds to go to the kitchen and he managed to open the baby wipes and pull them all out. One by one!!

Yellowstone

While hiking up to Fairy Falls we stopped at a burned out tree stump.

It took us about 45 minutes to walk to the Lone Star Geyser. About 10 minutes before we reached it, someone on the path back told us it just went off. We had to wait 3 hours for it to go off again..

We were all mesmerized by the fire.

We were so tired, but it was a wonderful day to move. The weather was perfect. When we got to the new place we tried to put Connor's crib through the door but it did not fit!! We had to take it a part, and then put it back together. Connor loved playing while Evan was working on it.

Camping with Connor

Camping with Connor was an experience. We only had 2 sleeping bags so I had to share with little Con Man. He is so wiggly!
He woke up at 4:00am and was wide awake. All he wanted to do was play with the flashlight.
Eating dirt was all he wanted to do. I couldn't stop him!!
